BRITISH HOP COMPETITION 2025

The 2025 CIBD British Hop Awards took place on 
Friday, 16th January in London. Congratulations to all the winners!

2025 Competition Winner’s List:

1. Class A: The Le May Cup awarded for the best sample of Goldings and eligible clones. 

1st – JE & JH Clinch (East Kent Goldings)
2nd – SJ Adams & Son (Goldings)
3rd – SC & JH Berry Ltd (East Kent Goldings)

2. Class B: The Hop Merchants Cup awarded for the best sample of hops (from each 
individual Category) bought on the basis of their aroma character, 
irrespective of Alpha Acid content.

Category A: High Aroma intensity 
1st – S J Adams & Sons (Harlequin)
2nd – TG Redsell Ltd (Solero)
3rd – Farmer Pudge & Co (Pioneer)

Category B: Strong Aroma Intensity 
1st – Richard Edmed (Hayle Farm). (Ernest)
2nd – SJ Parker (Opus)
3rd – RMO & RCO Capper (Pilgrim)

Category C: Delicate Aroma Intensity 
1st – JM Probert (Hersbrucker)
2nd – ST Tipples (Harts Heath). (WGV)
3rd – LE Humphreys & Sons (Fuggles)

3. Class C: The Brewers Cup awarded for the best sample of hops that are bought 
primarily for their high Alpha Acid content.

1st – Richard Edmed (Hayle Farm). (Target)
2nd – JM Barrett. (Harlequin)
3rd – Seb Nicholas. (Target)

4. Class D: The Wigan Cup awarded for the best sample of Fuggle.

1st – CR & G Daws
2nd – Great Venn
3rd – SJ Adams & Son

5. Class E: The Botanix Cup awarded for the best sample of Dwarf/Hedgerow variety. 

1st – C & R Pudge. (First Gold)
2nd – Farmer Pudge & Co. (Pioneer)
3rd – Farmer Pudge & Co. (Pioneer)

6. Class F: The Grower’s Challenge Bowl awarded for the best sample of new English variety. 

1st – Hawkins Farming (Harlequin)
2nd – JW Barrett. (Harlequin)
3rd – SJ Parker. (Ernest)

7. Champion: The best overall hop sample from the winners of classes A to F for the
Chartered Institute of Brewing & Distilling Award.
