Richard Watling created this role to build the overall Scotch Whisky strategy for Diageo following the merger of Guinness (United Distillers) and Grand Metropolitan
(International Distillers and Vintners) forming Diageo plc the world-leading spirits and Scotch Whisky Company. As a member of the Global Marketing Leadership team he developed a novel portfolio approach to marketing the wide range of blended and malt whiskies , notably Johnnie Walker, J&B, Buchanans, Dimple, Windsor, the Singleton and Haig covering 40%+ of the global market.
Richard joined IDV as the Marketing Director for Europe, leading the function and skills development in a matrix environment with the Brand Directors for J&B, Smirnoff, Baileys, Malibu and Gilbeys. As part of a GrandMet team created a unique approach to measuring brand equity and the strategic use of marketing funds – which later lead to the Diageo Way of Brand Building.

Laphroaig, Teachers and Long John.
