UK Great Northern Section

We aim to support you wherever in the world you are. Our eight sections are run by network of volunteers who host educational and networking events through the year and provide you with opportunity to develop deeper connections.

Chair

Beth Eaton

I started my career straight from school in 1983 working on the shopfloor at Debenhams. I then joined the Coop store management trainee programme progressing to the role of buyer. Redundancy followed-after a company take-over in 1991 and I worked in various roles including the Stockport Chamber of Commerce.

In September 1995 I joined Frederic Robinson and progressed to Contracts Manager for brewing and packaging. This role enabled me to learn about the brewing and packaging process, but it was as much about building relationships with people as the product technicalities. I enjoyed the role very much and have a lot to thank the Robinson family for. I attended many IBD events with colleagues there and I was persuaded to join the Great Northern Section committee later.

Being the social industry that it is, I met Paul Corbett MD at Charles Faram & Co at various functions. I knew of the hop merchants by reputation, a good one that is, and Paul invited me to join the company as sales manager for the north of England and Scotland. The offer was at a turning point in my life and that’s what I’ve been doing since December 2017. I love it.

Taking on the role of Chair of the CIBD Great Northern Section is an honour and a privilege. I am happy to be able to give something back to the industry that has been kind to me for 30 years.

Secretary

Jayne Hewitt

I am fortunate to have worked in brewing my whole career, in various quality focused and brewing roles in both the craft sector and for a multi national company. These insights and commitment to learning has more recently given me an opportunity to work for the IBD as an examiner. It feels a privilege to now be part of the journey many brewers are now taking to further their own careers as I did years ago.

As secretary for the IBD Great Northern Section, I get to meet with brewers, distillers and associated suppliers form all over the North of England and beyond, and support both virtual and in-person events for CIBD members.

My current role as Quality manager for Ossett and Salt Breweries brings together many years and experiences to help ensure we brew and package the highest quality beers.
