Brew York, Walmgate brewery and taproom, York, YO1 9TT

Join the Great Northern Section at Brew York’s Walmgate brewery and taproom for an afternoon of presentations, discussion and a brewery tour focused on beer quality and sensory.

Genevieve Upton (Cara Technology) will explore how sensory plays a leading role in quality and consistency in modern breweries, including how businesses can build effective sensory programmes to support brand identity and ensure products align with how they are marketed.

Annabelle Smith, beer writer and sommelier, will examine how brewers can influence quality beyond the brewery by supporting strong practices across the retail supply chain, highlighting common challenges and how they can be addressed. The session will also include opportunities for Q&A and insights into the recently relaunched Beer Sommelier programme.

The evening will continue with the Great Northern Section AGM, where Tom Edgley will be welcomed as Section Chair and finalise the committee for the coming year. This will be followed by a presentation from Wayne Smith, Founder and Managing Director of Brew York, sharing insights into the brewery’s growth and the challenges and opportunities of expanding the retail side of the business. The event will conclude with time to network, enjoy food and beer, and take a brief look at the brew kit on site.
