Join us for a Lunch & Learn event exploring the food safety risks facing brewers and distillers today and how to effectively manage them.

This event provides a structured and practical approach to understanding the potential food safety dangers inherent in beer and spirits production. You’ll gain insight into risk-minimisation strategies and laboratory testing approaches designed to support quality control and assurance.

Speakers

"Managing risks in No/Lo Alcoholic Beverages"

Ali is a microbiologist and quality management professional with over 30 years’ experience in the Food & Beverage industries.

Prior to joining Eurofins in 2022 Ali worked in a variety of technical management roles in manufacturing, retail, and laboratory services, including 5 years with Morrisons in the company microbiologist role, 13 years with Scottish & Newcastle including Group Microbiologist role, Senior QESH Manager at Coca-Cola European Partners, and Quality Specialist at Nestle. Her expertise is in Food Safety Management, HACCP, Food Microbiology, Quality Management, Audit, Laboratory Management & Experimental Design, Brewing Microbiology & Yeast Management, and the Development of Technical Training. She has extensive technical experience in the production and packaging of a wide range of foods and drinks, including RTE chilled foods, fresh meat, dry goods, produce, confectionery, beers, cider and soft drinks.

Qualifications include BSc (Hons), Dipl. Brew., RIPH Advanced Diploma in HACCP, REHIS Advanced Diploma in Food Hygiene, ISO 22000 Lead Auditor, NEBOSH General Certificate.

"PFAS (Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances)"

Speaking about PFAS and the newest insights on TFA contamination in in food and beverages and potential distillation concerns Helena Olsman is leading the Eurofins PFAS Competence Centre, in Lidköping Sweden.

She has a doctor´s degree in Environmental toxicology and 20 years' experience of PFAS monitoring and risk assessment. Her background includes method development for trace-level contaminants, quality assurance in accredited laboratory environments, within research and at Eurofins laboratories. After working eight years as a consultant, working closely with industry partners, governmental agencies and research institutions on risk assessment and strategic guidance, she returned to Eurofins two years ago and joined the Eurofins PFAS Competence Centre as business unit manager. The PFAS competence centre offers advanced analytical methods for detecting and quantifying PFAS in soil, water, food, feed, biota and consumer products. The centre focus is on analytical precision, operational efficiency and customer-oriented service—helping clients navigate evolving PFAS regulations, compliance requirements and risk-management challenges across multiple sectors.

Reuben Thomaes – Pesticide Residues & Mycotoxins

Studied process engineering & environmental sciences and part of Eurofins for more than 16 years focusing on contaminant analysis like Dioxins & PCB’s, Mycotoxins, Metals, MOSH MOAH, MCPD, PAH & Pesticides. Within the lab responsible for the implementation of Dioxins & PCB’s and MOSH MOAH and had leading positions within the environmental, agro and Food & Feed activities before becoming responsible for the intercompany business within the Netherlands. In private brewing beer on microlevel together with brother-in-law.

 

Authenticity Trained as a food analytical chemist, Dr. Eric Jamin has been working for Eurofins Scientific since 1995. After an initial PhD research work on stable isotope analysis of fruit and tobacco, he has been involved in quality assurance, client support and Research & Development in food analytical chemistry. He has taken part in more than 50 scientific papers so far. He is currently General Manager of the Authenticity Competence Centre of Eurofins laboratories, based in Nantes (France). His team involves ca 60 staff members, with expert skills in food chemistry, chromatography and isotope analyses of beverages and other food products tested for authenticity.

  • Livingston is well-served by buses from Edinburgh, however as the transfer from Livingston to Linlinthgow (16 km) will be by car, car-sharing would be recommended.
