Scottish Section: Hop Webinar

By the Scottish Section

Thursday, 18 June

4PM - 5PM (UK time)

Online on Zoom

Join the CIBD Scottish Section for an online webinar exploring hop sensory science and current challenges surrounding hops. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions and hear directly from two experienced industry speakers.

Tessa Schilaty, Technical Marketing Manager at Yakima Chief Hops, will discuss the current state of hop sensory science. Her session will explore how hop companies use sensory to maintain quality standards, how raw material sensory can support brewhouse operations, and how hop sensory scientists are responding to current industry challenges.

Mattias Sjöberg, Regional Sales Manager for Hopsteiner UK, will discuss the importance of the Hopsteiner breeding programme, the challenges facing growers, and the steps being taken to invest in British hop farming. Hopsteiner founded its breeding programme in the mid-1990s in Yakima and has since worked to develop hop varieties that can withstand climate and disease pressures, produce stable alphas and oils, and deliver a wide range of flavours.

Speakers

  • Tessa Schilaty - Technical Marketing Manager at Yakima Chief Hops
    • Tessa Schilaty, originally from Seattle, brings extensive international experience to the brewing industry. She holds an MSc in Brewing and Distilling from Heriot-Watt University and a Post Graduate Certificate in Sensory and Consumer Science from Penn State.
