The Midland Section invites all exam candidates taking the Diploma in Brewing Module 1 (June 2026 exam) to an exam preparation session. This event is designed to help you review key syllabus topics, identify critical points to cover in your answers, and gain valuable insights from experienced professionals.

What to expect

During this session, you will:

  • Be given support and guidance to formulate responses for typical long-answer questions.
  • Cover topics from all 9 units from Raw materials and Wort production:
    • Malt
    • Specialty malts and adjuncts
    • Introduction to water
    • Hops
    • Milling
    • Mashing
    • Wort separation
    • Wort boiling
    • Wort clarification, cooling and oxygenation
  • Go on a guided tour of all the relevant plant and technology employed by MolsonCoors at the Burton Brewery

Please note

  • Safety shoes and safety glasses are required. Please bring your own for the tour.
  • Accessibility requirements: Please let us know ahead of time if you have any specific needs.
  • Dietary requirements: A buffet lunch will be provided. Please inform us of any dietary requirements or restrictions.

This event was put together to help CIBD candidates deepen their understanding of the exam material and it will be led by experienced industry professionals:

  • Mike Sayer - CIBD Master Brewer, Assistant Professor, University of Nottingham

How to get there/Parking: Burton on Trent railway station is a few minutes walk from the brewery.
There is limited car parking space on site but if full you will have to use NCP car parks in the town.
